The Boeing P-26 holds a marked place in history being the first U.S. all-metal fighter in production and first monoplane fighter used by the U.S. Army Air Corps. It was also the last Boeing fighter used by the U.S. military until Boeing acquired McD onnell-Douglas and the F/A-18. Called the Peashooter by its American pilots the P-26 was a very easy to fly aircraft but it was quickly outpaced by foreign aircraft. Though the Peashooter never saw combat with American pilots both Chinese and Phili ppine pilots used the fighter in the early stages of World War II fighting against Japanese invaders. Guatemala acquired a few surplus aircraft during World War II utilizing them in combat operations until 1954 and flying them until 1957.The P-26 is presented here in exactly the same manner as the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum example.
