A special made air racer the GeeBee Model R was one of the fastest aircraft produced in the 1930s. An unusual teardrop design gave the fuselage of the craft lift characteristics and a far rearward cockpit gave the pilot greater visibility during race s particularly in turns. Only two models were built and both eventually crashed (one due to non-recommended modification) but despite this the model was highly regarded on the race circuits particularly by the famous Jimmy Doolittle.
