The Douglas C-47 Skytrain is the iconic transport aircraft for World War II and perhaps the most famous propeller driven transport of all time. The C-47 is a military modification of the Douglas DC-3 and it was used in every theatre of World War II. The Skytrain served in a variety of roles transporting solid cargo to parachute infantry and there were even a few variants modified to serve as gunships during the Vietnam conflict much like the modern AC-130.
