The Boeing B-29 Superfortress was among the largest aircraft of World War II. It saw limited service during that war being introduced in mid-1944. It was however the primary heavy bomber in the Pacific from its introduction until the end of the war after two B-29s dropped the first atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The B-29 continued to see combat after World War II still being the primary heavy bomber during the Korean War. An upgraded variant termed the B-50 Superfortress continued t o see use in auxiliary roles until 1960 when it was replaced by newer jet-powered aircraft.This particular B-29 is modeled after the Enola Gay the aircraft that dropped the first atomic bomb during an assault on Hiroshima August 6 1945 and the model is signed by two members of the flight crew who participated in that mission: Captain Theodore Van Kirk and 2nd.
